June 3, 2013

The purpose of this blog is documenting the adventures of our new 1966 Shelby Cobra replica.

Purchased a 1966 Cobra Replica in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, with the purpose of driving Rt. 66 from Chicago to California in October, 2013.

Drove the car over 1000 miles back to Dammeron Valley, Utah.  The car drove like a dream and the weather was kind to us, no rain, or high temperatures.

The Cobra kit is a B&B Manufacturing Co., located in Connecticut.  Car was purposely manufactured to original specifications of a California car owner.  The car is complete with a 4 speed trans and powered by a Ford 427 side oiler engine.

After 1000+ miles I was pulling the car into my garage when the clutch failed.  This was good timing.  I have spent the last 2 months getting the car ready for our next adventure.  Fixed the clutch problem, replaced the Speedometer and Tachometer that failed on the way down from Coeur d'Alene and added insulation between the engine compartment and the cockpit to eliminate the engine heat that was coming in, this was making the car almost undrivable.  Also added an under body coating, Lizzard Skin, to reduce the heat coming through the floor boards of the car.  After all of these modifcations, the heating problems with the car have been resolved.
